A few days ago when Tim Walz entered the national spotlight, I only caught a glimpse of this affable looking Minnesotan I’d never heard of or seen before and had a thought involving something along the lines of, I wonder what the political cartoonists are gonna do with this guy?

Special note: None of this is meant to be of a political nature at all! All comments going forward are for the sake of observation and caricature.

With him, it seems pretty obvious- he’s got a super wide smile and big rubbery bottom half of his face, with lots of extra jowl meat just kinda hanging there, ready for action. This is especially evident in pics like these:

Kinda like a bulldog. Just a great face. I kept getting images of this guy in my head:

I love a great face.

When he smiles it really emphasizes his muzzle & cheeks even more- and I have to believe after time if he remains in the spotlight, the political cartoonists will have a field day with this mug, reducing it down to a circle with glasses, smile lines, wide mouth and not much more. Fun.

Anyhoo, I did a little warmup drawing of ol’ Tim here- this one is based on what I came up with, to show here- a video of me sketching out the marker drawing is below that…

I totally get why people want Steve Martin to play him on SNL.
